“My paintings originate in drawings that I make during my working trips to the Andes. When I return to London, I pin the drawings to the main wall of the studio; they remind me of the places where I have been. They make me feel the presence of the absent world of the Andes, so that I feel it even more intensely than if I were there. The drawings are the seeds of my paintings”
