Report on 2012 competition
The fourth Drawing Competition "El Valor del Dibujo Fernando Montes-Peñaranda" was held in the Galeria Alternativa in September 2012. This gallery, owned by Claudia Hurtado and Isabel Crespo, is well situated in La Paz and is considered to be one of the best in the city.

44 artists participated; the exhibition of the work of the selected artists took place from the 11th to the 24th of September. On this occasion the jury was comprised by the Bolivian artists Alfredo La Placa, Giomar Mesa, Miguer Yapur and Javier Fernandez and the Spanish Art Historian, Margarita Vila.

The first prize of US$800, chosen unanimously, went to Santiago Jr. Ayala Cruz, the second prize of US$400 to Félix Gómez and the diplomas to Roly Huanca Huari, Juan Mayta and Franz Quispe Uscamayta. The private view of the exhibition was very well attended and a number of works were sold.

On the last day of the exhibition the artists were invited to attend a round table with the members of the jury to discuss their work.

As usual the catalogue was beautiful, with very good reproductions of all the exhibited works. The articles that introduced the catalogue were written by Alfredo La Placa and Alvaro Ruilova who won the first prize in the 2010 Competition. The catalogue also reproduces the final act of the jury which included helpful comments about the work of the winners.

It gives great satisfaction to see that some of the past participants of the Competitions are doing well in their careers.

The Funds website continues to host galleries dedicated to past and present prize winners which we hope will assist them in furthering their careers. Comments are invited from those featured.

Marcella Montes, on behalf of the Fund, extends her gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the competition and in particular to Galleria Alternativa for hosting it so generously, to Fernando Romero for sponsoring the catalogue and to the judges for donating so much of their time and effort to assessing the entries.
